Glenelg v Norwood, Glenelg Oval 24 July, 2016 We stole this one. After a dour tussle carried out for three quarters in a chill, paint-stripping nor-westerly, that grew in intensity throughout the match, the Tigers had a lot of work to do at the last change: The Redlegs had a 25 point lead, having played the ground more intelligently and directly. In the first quarter, with the breeze blowing through all points of the compass at times, they snagged 5 goals without a miss. But the Bays kept at it, with the midfield (special mention to Snook and Earl) winning a lot of contested…

In any case, while I was partaking of the lush decadence served up by the Richard Wagner Society’s function, Glenelg came from the back of the truck, again, and knocked-off top three wannabe, the Crows Reserves. I gather that our ebony gods, Tim Sumner and Terry Milera, got 4 goals each and helped us run-down a formidable quarter-time lead. With sterling support from the whole side, and extra goals by Josh Scott and Ziggy…
Continue Reading →Glenelg v South Adelaide, Glenelg Oval, 9 July 2016 Tigers vs Panthers at the Bay, fighting for the Carey-Darley Cup, with South getting the first three goals in under seven minutes. But then in the latter part of the quarter, goals to Nicholson and Scott put the home team in front. The visitors dominated the second quarter and only a late goal to Earl kept us in the hunt – but it looked like a comfortable win to South (certain finalists this season) was shaping up. Again, the Panthers completely dominated the first half of the (3rd) term. Although they did not exploit their…

We had 3 more scoring shots and a lot of contested possession. A statistician would be pleased, but in the final analysis, the only stat is we got beat. Turnovers and missed shots for goal (7.17, if you please!) killed us, and Sturt aren’t the quivering mass of jelly they used to be. So, we show evidence of want and will, which is half the battle…let’s now work on verve and skill, which when…

After a long lead-up to this game, an important one, especially in light of the launch of the ‘Save the Tigers’ campaign, with a good and good-natured holiday crowd, we really expected better, although we’ve had trouble with North recently. The Bays were thrashed, and thrashed all day, losing every quarter, despite a strong final term effort. North were simply faster, more focused and made few errors. With the visitors leading 16 goals to 4 at three-quarter time, it was a relief to end-up only having our score doubled, not…
