For whom the bells toll

Corner of Santa Monica Blvd & Van Ness Ave, Hollywood, April 2018 –

The Final Taxi

The map seems almost impenetrable but still sounder than the map to live stars’ homes –

…and Lohengrin predominates –

Plus there are turtles…

Take it away, Johnny and Dee Dee:

The swans, cats, peacocks, squirrels, and human mourners can find, among the “Garden of Eternal Love”, the “Garden of Jerusalem”, the “Plains of Abraham”, “the Pantheon”, the Garden of Beginners” and the “Garden of Legends”, such luminaries as Don Adams, William (“One-Shot”) Beaudine, Harry Cohn (of whom Red Skelton observed, noting the large crowds at his funeral, “When you give the people what they want…”), Marion Davies, Cecil D. DeMille, Douglas Fairbanks, Peter Finch, Victor Fleming, Judy Garland, John Huston, Erich W. Korngold, Jesse Lasky, Jayne Mansfield, Mickey Rooney, “Bugsy” Siegel, Gregg Toland, Rudolph Valentino, Vampira, and Fay Wray.

In particular, within the Cathedral Mausoleum, were the remains of the great Peter Lorre and his (3rd) wife, Anne Marie –

The Hillside Stranglers, Kenneth Bianchi and Angelo Buono, during their L.A. spree in 1977 and 1978, when they posed as policemen and raped and murdered at least 10 young women, abducted Peter Lorre’s daughter, Catherine Lorre Baker, but released her without harm when they discovered the identity of her father (presumably they were fans of Peter’s work as a serial killer in M). We left a lucky 50c Aussie coin at the Lorre niche to bring them similar luck in the afterlife.
