Should I Leave Again?

Glenelg vs Eagles @ Woodville Oval, 22/4/18

Having fled the country after an insipid Good Friday performance against those perennial strugglers South*, naturally the Bays fired-up and started having a real go in my absence. After falling three points short against last years’ Grand Finallist Port, Glenelg then whipped Norwood by 5 odd goals, a patchy but impressive effort according to The Varnished Culture‘s mail. However, seeing Norwood flogged by North on TV on Saturday put that win into context.

Thus with trepidation did we contemplate another trip to play that toxic hybrid, the Woodville-West-Torrens Eagles. Having matched the hosts for a half, the Tigers wilted in the un-seasonal autumn heat and went down by a lazy 10 goals.  We drop to 8th on the ladder, which flatters us, I fear. A rampaging Centrals are next. It is shaping-up as a long, dry season, as we predicted.  But I am happy to consider leaving the country again in order to remove the obvious jinx that I am.  Would Glenelg fans consider crowd-funding, to cover my substantial expenses?  I’m thinking several months in Rome might do it (I can light a candle for the team at Father Frank’s place, if it will help).

Eagles 18.12 (120) Glenelg 8.11 (59)

Too hot to play

[*Incidentally Panthers fans, stop whining!  I know you’ve not won a pennant since 1964, but I’ve just been in Chicago, where the Cubs baseball team recently broke a World Series drought of well over 100 years.]
