[Glenelg v Central Districts at Glenelg Oval, 14 August 2021]

Your correspondent had been pressed into service as deputy Door Bitch for the Past Players and Officials function for the last home game of the season (see main image) but there was still time to enjoy the game on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the weather a presage of Spring.  With the minor premiership wrapped up, it was time to keep the streak going and celebrate Brad Agnew’s 150th league game in style, which we did against the Bulldogs, honest toilers in a re-building phase.

10 goals to 3 in the first half allowed a bit of second half coasting in which the Tigers still managed 8 goals to 7.

Liam McBean kicked seven of those goals and looks to have again secured the Ken Farmer Medal.

The team was impeccable: fast, classy, attacking and effective in finishing off their work.  Max Proud, Chris Curran, Marlon Motlop, Matthew Snook, Brett Turner and Matt Allen were stand-outs, as was Aggers (see below).

The only scare of the day was Lachie Hosie, making a welcome return in the victorious Seconds. After a modest bag of 6 goals in the first half, he limped off, causing concern about a recurring hamstring injury.  All is well apparently.

The last 2 rounds have us against West at Richmond, who will be desperate to get some late season improvement, and then the old enemy, Port, at Alberton.  Is there a loss in our future?  We don’t see why, although anything is possible in two-horse races.  The final 2 rounds are mainly of interest for the make-up of our opponents in the finals: North and the Eagles are hitting red-hot form, while South and Norwood are struggling a bit at the moment, although they can both beat anyone on their day.

Glenelg 18.13 (121)  Centrals 10.7 (67)
