Killer Quentin Quotes

Maybe he’s a better writer than director?  We have reviewed Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs and seen more than a handful of others, but the Man does have a certain je ne sais quoi with a movie line. Here’s what we mean:

“Hamburgers!  The cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast.” [Pulp Fiction]

“Check out the big brain on Brad!” [Pulp Fiction]

Bail bondsman Max Cherry (Robert Forster) has no illusions: “I’m 56 years old. I can’t blame anybody for anything I do.” [Jackie Brown]

Gangster Jules pays a call and delivers a message from God: “Ezekiel 25:17 – The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men.  Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children.  And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brother. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.”   [Pulp Fiction]  (nb: this is a highly bowdlerised and dubious rendering of Ezekiel 25:17, albeit less ludicrous than the totally bogus reference to giants walking the earth, Genesis 4:32 (which does not exist), in the hopeless 1962 beach monster film, Eegah!).

“Ever listen to K-Billy’s Super Sounds of the Seventies?  It’s my personal favourite.”  [Reservoir Dogs]

Captain Koons (Christopher Walken) to little Butch, in a heart-warming moment: “Five long years he wore this watch – up his ass.  Then – he died of dysentery, give me the watch, I hid this uncomfortable hunk of metal up my ass two years, then, after seven years, I was sent home to my family, and now, little man – I give the watch to you.” [Pulp Fiction]

“We got a German here who wants to die for his country! Oblige him!” [Inglourious Basterds]

“No, man.  I’m pretty f****** far from OK.”  [Pulp Fiction]

Marsellus Wallace, after being raped by Zed: “You hear me talking, hill-billy boy? I ain’t through with you by a damn sight; I’m going to get medieval on your ass.” (and then to Butch, who has freed him): “This shit is between me, you and Mr. Soon-to-be-living-the-rest-of-his-short-ass-life-in-agonizing-pain, rapist here.” [Pulp Fiction]

Mr Blonde to Mr White: “Are you gonna bark all day, little doggie, or are you gonna bite?” [Reservoir Dogs]

“Would you give a guy a foot massage?” [Pulp Fiction]

“Now that, my friend, is a clear cut case of him or me.” [Jackie Brown]

“I’m gonna give you a little somethin’ you can’t take off.” (a swastika carved in the man’s forehead.) [Inglourious Basterds]

“If I’m curt with you, it’s because time is a factor…so pretty please with sugar on top, clean the f****** car.”  [Pulp Fiction]

Max Cherry to his client’s benefactor: “Whatever you’re into, you seem to be getting away with it, so more power to you.” [Jackie Brown]

“I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but, they’re definitely dirty, but, a dog’s got personality, personality goes a long way.” [Pulp Fiction]

NOTE: A friend and colleague kindly made a loan to us of Pulp Fiction: we like to ensure quotes are as accurate as possible, even if we have to fiddle with rewind over and over (remember how it was actually easier to find the right moment when we had tape?).  And we have been ordered by another friend and colleague to watch From Dusk To Dawn, which we do not wish to do, but in the interests of scholarship….more to possibly follow.
