Three Quarters Shall Weary Them

Lest we forget...to show up on time

Glenelg v South Adelaide at Hickinbotham Oval, Saturday afternoon, 22 April 2017

Glenelg spent 3 quarters letting this pre-Anzac Day game get just beyond them, like a suicidal chopper-skipper who flies out to sea using slightly over half of the fuel before turning back. Someone for South called Overall was over all like a rash, with 5 goals. The untimely return of Joel Cross for the Panthers was similarly unwelcome.

Last quarter...are we warmed-up yet?

Last quarter…are we warmed-up yet?

Down an embarrassing 12 goals to 5 at the last change, the Tigers then kicked 6 goals to 0 in the fourth quarter, falling short by under a goal.  Liam McBean having been well-held, James Sellar was swung into attack to some advantage and Ian Milera was a bright spark all day, with 4 goals, as was Josh Scott with 3. But what a waste of a game.  The Carey Darley Cup stays at Noarlunga, for now.

It is not the first time the long bus ride down South has smoked our season’s prospects. The Varnished Culture stress-ate all of the petit éclairs on offer at the very good lunch provided in the Peter Darley room.  Darley and our own Peter Carey spoke well and in the former’s case, pungently, on the deleterious effect of the AFL’s tinkering with the game.

So forget that one if you can and hopefully take away the last quarter’s effort and apply it at the start of next Saturday’s game at home against Central Districts.

South Adelaide 12.6 (78) Glenelg 11.7 (73)
