Here we have a section from “The Love Letter” by Johannes Vermeer. The Dutch master of light and domestic scenes painted it about 1666. You can see the original in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Hard to believe that we ten will be entering our fourth year of Greek with Dr Boria at the Adelaide WEA. I still haven’t got a hold of those progressive active participles. We love our lessons. Our books – Athenaze 1 textbook and workbook (yes, we are only now completing book one) – are tattered to various degrees – mine is the worst of all. Perhaps we will start on Athenaze 2 this year? I wanted to use my lovely Noro yarn. I wanted to make this vest. It is in Cleckheaton No 934, “outrageous crochet” by Penny O’Neill. So… I put the two together. Here is the front. This is the back. Here”s a hint – I found it useful to cut out cardboard circles in the three sizes and measure my medallions against them as I went. Much easier than getting the tapemeasure out all the time. BIG REVEAL TIME! I have finished the blue Juliet Jacket The buttons are little clear ones with blue flowers. Problem is, I decided to crochet only one buttonhole because I was too lazy at that time to bother with measuring for placement. I also thought that I would not do up the buttons. But now that I see it finished, I think it needs to be done up. So one day I must be very brave and get out the seam ripper, carefully cut buttonholes and then buttonhole stich around the cut quickly. Eeep! Can anyone think of a better way…

'Wreck and sinking of the Titanic.....a graphic and thrilling account...
David Dyer’s dissipated newspaper correspondent, John Steadman, defines Philip Franklin, Vice President of J P Morgan’s International Mercantile Marine, which owned the Titanic, by one word – “fear” – when the missing ship’s fate is uncertain and by the word “courage” when its fate is known. The word for The Midnight Watch is “gripping”. Although Steadman is fictional, Franklin is not. The real people from this infamous event – the failure of the SS Californian to come to come to the aid of the sinking Titanic – are effectively imagined by Dyer. None are superfluous.
