10 (or more) Gestures & Sayings We Hate

  1. Calling babysitters “Nannies.”
  2. “Oh my God!”
  3. The ‘mobile phone’ gesture; – fist at the side of the face, thumb up in the air, pinkie out.
  4. “I literally died”. (Obviously not.)
  5.  “First take your sander…”  What if it’s not my sander?  What if I’ve hired it?  “I love my Channel 9”.  What?  You own it?
  6. The fist pump.
  7. “You should of been there.”
  8. The “exclusive coterie group.”
  9. “French doors”.  No, they are windows.  If they are called “doors”, they are not French.  That’s just the way it is.
  10. “China has the second-largest economy after the USA”.  No, it has the largest economy after the USA.  If it were the second-largest after the USA, it would be the third largest economy in the world, not the second largest.
  11. Using the term “stakeholders” to mean those with a vested interest in the matter, rather than a disinterested holder of the disputed matter or prize.
  12. “Significant” to mean large or important.
  13. Four fingered quotation marks.
  14. Women fanning their faces with both hands to indicate extreme emotion. Followed by the delicate dabbing of the corners of the eyes.  The emotion is extreme but not extreme enough to warrant smudged mascara.  Admittedly, there is less of this now that Oprah is no longer on TV.
  15. “In Store now!”
  16. Since when did the USA export “the Bird”?
