Glenelg Tigers v North Adelaide Roosters at Prospect Oval, 5 August 2018
If only we’d won a couple more close ones. Be that as it may, the Tigers are still a Very Silly Chance for finals, and perhaps more sensibly (and more importantly), seem to be developing the cohesion and application that all good sides have.
In wet and windy conditions at the notorious lop-sided ground, Glenelg held its nerve and out-lasted a more fancied opponent by maintaining consistent scoreboard pressure, a factor lacking in previous years. The Milera boys were up and about, but Lachlan Hosie, on a bad day for tall forwards, snared a vital 3 goals. As the scoring tally shows, honours were even all day in a good old-fashioned ‘arm-wrestle’ where a dominant 2nd quarter proved the difference by a handful of points.
At the 17 minute mark of a dour last quarter, North got a goal that wasn’t (shades of the Showdown?) – have a look at the G v NA portion of the SANFL highlights package below if you don’t believe us – and the home side drew within 4 points. And they kept coming but there were no goals in the last 8 minutes or so and the Bays hung on by 3.
So on to Adelaide, and let’s hope South lose their next 3 games by 1000 points! But a win, even if it counts for nothing, hurts real good.
Glenelg 8.8 (56) North Adelaide 8.5 (53)
