Nearing the Pointy End

Glenelg v West Adelaide at Richmond Oval, Friday night, 27 August 2021

A lovely evening but a pretty modest crowd at “Hisense Stadiumsaw a spirited contest, with wooden-spoon certs West having a go all evening, falling short to superior skill and attacking method. West fans might be forgiven for staying home and watching the AFL rather than rolling-up, given we are nearly at the end of the season for half the teams, but the home team showed a bit, including snaring the last 3 goals of the game. The Tigers won every quarter though and at the final siren it was a comfortable 6-goal win.

No goals for Ken Farmer medalist-in-waiting Liam McBean, but Darcy Bailey chipped in with 3, and Reynolds, Hosie (a welcome return to the league side) and Brad Agnew snared 2 each, with plenty of singles to share among the rest.

All played well, with Brett Turner, Matt Allen and Matthew Snook standouts from the midfield.

Port at Alberton next week; something of a dead rubber, although if Sturt and South both lose badly, and we allow Port to be the first team this year to beat us, and by about 15 goals, the Magpies can theoretically make the Final Five.  South Adelaide, better get that suitcase full of pineapples, in non-sequential order, over to us…

Glenelg 15.8 (98) West Adelaide 9.8 (62)
