Songs in Our Heart # 61

She Thinks I Still Care (George Jones) (Written by Dickey Lee Lipscombe & Steve Duffy; released April 1962) [One of the great Grand Ole Opry songs, where if you spin the record backwards, you get your dog, your truck, your shotgun and your wife back…in that order.  Here, the singer certainly seems to still care!  Asking friends about her, speaking her name, dialing her number…by mistake today – that’s care on a stalker level.  Add George’s severe visage (In the ‘Pet Milk Grand Ole Opry” TV recording of February 1962 his granite puss is comparable to Jim Carrey from Me, Myself & Irene) and unique voice (like a “singing fist” as James Taylor described it), you get the message.  The owner of that 1962 You Tube recording, in a fit of pique, has disabled our offering of it: here’s a later live version with George sporting a softer haircut.]
